Function and legibility in an informal way was what influenced the design of Typology. My choice of black and white imagery with an accent of yellow helped to create the functional feel of technical documentation. This aspect influenced my type specimens design even further. Choosing the typeface Letter Gothic this typeface was designed for the typewriter and became commonly used in documentation such as tables and computer terminals. Because of this I wanted to emphasise the grid structure and play on idea of low resolution by running a half-tone filter over many of the images. The choice of standard uncoated paper stock for the book helped to communicate the no frills aesthetic of my design. My choice of thin layout paper for the type specimen, which has a transparent quality emulating the feeling of a draft document.
